Lenten Vigil 2012 Lyrics

Genesis II Choir Lenten Vigil 2012

A quiet time

A quiet time is all I need, A quiet time of prayer;
A quiet time of meditation, He will meet me there.
The lonely hours of longing, trusting, Faith and hope to know;
Just a time of simple searching, Wanting just to grow.

There is enough of God in nature, His pow’r is clearly shown.
A man has no excuse for wandering, God and heav’n are known, God and heav’n are known.

In my mind I launch a voyage, Destiny unknown;
Discovery and exploration, By the Spirit shown.
On Mount Sinai I am climbing, Then in a desert place;
The wind of God is inspiration, Teaching love and grace.

A quiet time is all I need, A quiet time of prayer;
A quiet time alone with Jesus, He will meet me there.

O God you search me

1. O God, you search me and you know me.
All my thoughts lie open to your gaze.
When I walk or lie down you are before me:
Ever the maker and keeper of my days.

2. You know my resting and my rising.
You discern my purpose from afar,
And with love everlasting you besiege me:
In ev’ry moment of life or death, you are.

3. Before a word is on my tongue, Lord,
You have known its meaning through and through.
You are with me beyond my understanding:
God of my present, my past and future, too.

4. Although your Spirit is upon me,
Still I search for shelter from your light.
There is nowhere on earth I can escape you:
Even the darkness is radiant in your sight.

5. For you created me and shaped me,
Gave me life within my mother’s womb.
For the wonder of who I am, I praise you:
Safe in your hands, all creation is made new.

Before I was born

You made me, you formed me, you kept me alive long before I was born.

1. You have sought me out and found me. You know where I sit or stand.
You know the depths of my heart whenever I move or rest. You find me wherever I am.

2. Before the word comes from my mouth, you know what I want to say.
You come close to me. You lay your hand upon me. All of this is too much for me.

3. How can I ever hide from you? Where can I run from you?
Above and below — you are there. To the dawn or to the sea — you are there.
Your hand will guide my way.

4. You have created every inch of me. You have knit me to my mother’s womb. You have record of all my days, long before they ever began. How amazing your thoughts, O God

Lord, you have come

Lord, you have come to the seashore, neither searching for the rich nor the wise,
Desiring only that I should follow.

O Lord, with your eyes set upon me, gently smiling, you have spoken my name;
All I longed for I have found by the water, at your side, I will seek other shores.

Lord, see my goods, my possessions; in my boat you find no power, no wealth.
Will you accept, then, my nets and labour?

Lord, take my hands and direct them. Help me spend myself in seeking the lost,
Returning love for the love you gave me.

Lord, Jesus Christ

Lord Jesus Christ, your light shines within us
Let not my doubts or my darkness speak to me
Lord Jesus Christ, your light shines within us
Let my heart always welcome your love

Bless the Lord, my soul

Bless the Lord, my soul, and bless His holy name
Bless the Lord, my soul, Who leads me into life

Stand by me

When the storms of life are raging, Lord stand by me
When the current pulls me under, Lord stand by me
When the rising waters toss me, like a ship upon the sea
You who rule the wind and water, Lord stand by me

Stand by me, stand by me
Lift me up from the restless sea
When I am lost, when love can’t be found
When no one cares, Lord stand by me

In the midst of persecution, Lord stand by me
When my enemies surround me, Lord stand by me
When the tyrant wields his terror, and the armies wage their might
When the darkness overwhelms me, Lord stand by me

He will carry you

There is no problem too big, God cannot solve it.
There is no mountain too tall, He cannot move it.
There is no storm too dark, God cannot calm it.
There is no sorrow too deep, He cannot soothe it.

If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders,
I know my brother that He will carry you.
If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders,
I know my sister that He will carry you.

He said, ‘Come unto me all who are weary, and I will give you rest.”

Ours were the griefs He bore

Ours were the griefs He bore
Ours were the pains He carried
Ours were the sins He took on Him
And by His wounds we are healed

Christ is praying all alone

Come and walk into a garden place, In the moonlight there a form you’ll trace,
Who impending death prepares to face, Christ is praying all alone.
See the Saviour bowed on bended knee, See the suff’ring tears and agony,
As He asks to change His destiny, Christ is praying all alone.

“O my Father, let it be. That this cup be passed from me
O my Father, hear thy son, Not my will, but Thine be done.”

Listen as He asks His friends to share, In that moment, in that time of prayer,
When He needed them they were not there, Christ is praying all alone.
See the blood like sweat-drops on His brow, See the shroud of death surround Him now,
While His friends such loneliness allow, Christ is praying all alone.

When the midnight hours come my way, Trading darkness for the light of day,
Causing me to stumble and to say “Why have you allowed this, Lord?”
May I see that it was best for me, Though the reasons oft I cannot see,
Like the Lord in dark Gethsemane, Help me pray, “Thy will be done.”

Adoramus te, O Christe

O, Adoramus te O Christe. [We adore you, O Christ]

God is forgiveness

God is forgiveness, dare to forgive and God will be with you.
God is forgiveness, love and do not fear.

In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful

In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful, in the Lord I will rejoice Look to God do not be afraid, lift up your voices the Lord is near, Lift up your voices the Lord is near.

Wait for the Lord

Wait for the Lord, whose day is near; Wait for the Lord, keep watch take heart.

Holy Darkness

Holy darkness, blessed night; heaven’s answer hidden from our sight.
As we await you, O God of silence, we embrace your holy night.

Stay with me

Stay with me, remain here with me; Watch and pray, watch and pray.

Cor Novum: A New Heart

The recital will take place: 23rd October 2016 Venue & Time: Church of the Holy Family, 8:00pm – 9:00pm

Ticket: $15 | payment to be made through:

*Please note, as there are no e-tickets, once you have made your donation/payment through giving.sg, please forward your e-receipt to me (through FB message) or your contact in the fundraising choir so we can note ticketing needs.

This small recital in this Year of Mercy is to help raise funds for Caritas, and to bring together current members, alumni and friends of Genesis II Choir to lend their God-given talent to this cause.

In conjunction with the parish’s 80th Anniversary, this fundraiser is also an opportunity to share beloved sacred choral music, a rich Catholic legacy, alongside modern music with the public, and the message behind the Year of Mercy.

The repertoire ranges from the likes of classics such as Salve Regina and O Magnum Mysterium to contemporary favourites such as Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Twila Paris’ The Warrior is a Child.

We would also like to be able to help raise awareness of Caritas as a charitable organisation and what it does: 100% of ticketing proceeds will benefit Caritas Singapore.
